Apparently, math isn't the only subject in which you need help. Your question should have been, "On which side of an ordered pair is the independent variable?" While putting "on" at the end of the sentence is an easily excusable error since fewer people recognize it as such, using "witch" where you should have used "which" is not quite as excusable. I don't ordinarily correct people's grammar online, but when you ask a question related to school, I do find it necessary.
Anyway, to answer your question, x is the independent variable and y is the dependent variable.
