Independent variable and dependent variable for serial position effect?

I'm really confused on this. I don't really get what the dependent/ independent variables are for this study.

i think that

Independent variable: the delay in recall

Dependent variable: the position of the list for the words

but i don't understand why...

help?Independent variable and dependent variable for serial position effect?
Haha You sound just like I did when I was starting out in my studies in Psychology. The IV and DV were my biggest enemies; I always got them wrong, as did you in this case. Okay, your Dependent Variable (DV) depends on the other variables. So, a delay in recall, is dependent on the position of the list for the words.

IV: The position of the list of the words.

DV: The delay in recall

The more words you have, the harder it is to recall the list. If the list is in Alphabetical Order, recall is fast. If it is jumbled up, there is a delay. Whether or not you experience a delay depends entirely on the position of the words for the list. Get it?Independent variable and dependent variable for serial position effect?
independent variable is what the experimenter manipulates/changes, in this case, the position of the list for the words

dependent variable is the result that occurs because the experimenter manipulates/changed an item in the study, which this case, the delay in recall

The dependent variable is dependent upon the independent variable.
