Wish one is the dependent or independent variable?

For example if I'm doing an experiment of drinking and i give a track team students 2 ounces of Vodka ? what would be my dependent or independent variable?Wish one is the dependent or independent variable?
There are several possibilities depending on how you design the experiment.

The independent variable might be how much time has passed since the participants drank the vodka (or water, if you have a control group for comparison).

The dependent variable is what you are watching change over time, such as alertness, coordination or blood-alcohol-content.Wish one is the dependent or independent variable?
Well it really depends on what you're trying to find out. The independent variable is what you manipulate to change the dependent variable. So, say, you give one group of your track students 2 ounces of vodka (experimental group) and you didn't give the others any (control group), %26lt;-those would be the independent variables. The outcome- such a performace, or really whatever you want to make it, would be the dependent variable. Then you can perform an independent samples T-Test to see if your results are significantly diffrent.Wish one is the dependent or independent variable?
You have only listed one variable. The amount of vodka. A better example would be:

Giving the track students different amounts of vodka. Group A gets no vodka (they get water instead but are told its vodka. Group B is given two shots of vodka, and Group C is given 6 shots of vodka. The manipulated variable is often seen as the independent variable, in this case it is the amount of vodka.

You then would measure a second variable like how long it takes them to run around the track. In this case the track time would be the dependent variable.
