We did a lab today in science and we had to separate sand, salt and pepper. What are/is the dependent variable, independent variable. and constant?

independent variable: method used to separate components
dependent variable: how well it separated
constant: unknown because I don't know the steps of your lab.What is the Dependent Variable,Independent Variable and Constant?
Dependent variable is the variable measured.. I forget the rest sorry..
