What does the term independent variable mean?

i was wondering What does the term independent variable means because this was the word in a science paper which was about a science experiment.What does the term independent variable mean?

Independent variable means a factor or element that can not be linked with other factors or does not dependent on other factors and have a good impact.



In any analysis - the scholars has to take into account various factors or variables. And some are independent and some variables are linked or connected with others variables. so independent variables are the ones can not be changeable at any given time and place.What does the term independent variable mean?
An independent variable is a factor that can be varied or manipulated in an experiment (e.g. time, temperature, concentration, etc). It is usually what will affect the dependent variable.What does the term independent variable mean?
it has no bearing on any other variable nor does any other variable have any bearing on it.

y changes according to x... bt x is independent..
