What does it mean when an independent variable has a coefficient of zero, but is significant?

I'm (trying to) run a multiple regression model, but one of my independent variables yields a slope coefficient of zero. I was going to just throw it out, but it is significant (p = 0). What does this mean? What does it mean when an independent variable has a coefficient of zero, but is significant?
That means there is a relationship between the two variables, but not a straight line relationship. It could be that one is proportional to the square of the other, or to any power other than 1, or any other non-linear relationships.
