Would this be my independent variable for my experiment?

My problem is to find out if the color of a wax candle affects the time it takes to burn.

The independent variable is the color and size of the candles.

The dependent variable is the time/rate the candles melt at.

Also, please tell me if my dependent variable is correct.Would this be my independent variable for my experiment?
yes, you are right on. the dependent variable is the one that varies as you change the independent variable. In this case, you are changing the color wax being melted, and measuring if the rate changes. the rate is dependent on the color.
