What's the independent and dependent variable in this short study?

The experiment is called, "Be a Juror"

Purpose: This study regarding the effect of eyewitness testimony can be used to generate a discussion regarding the influence on juries of such testimony

Information: The computer randomly assigns each participant to one of three different scenarios, in which the participant learns details of a crime. In the first scenario, the defendant provides testimony and argues he is not guilty. The second scenario is similar but also includes a statement that a witness saw the defendant commit the crime. In the third and final scenario, an attorney indicates that the witness was not wearing his glasses, thus his testimony may have been false.

Design

Participants are in one of three treatment conditions (a) no eyewitness, (b) discredited eyewitness, and (c) unrefuted eyewitness. Participants in this study rate their belief about the defendant's guilt. The rating scale ranges from a 1 (definitely not guilty) to a 7 (definitely guilty).

MY QUESTIONS:

1. What is the independent variable?

2. What is the dependent variable?

Thanks a lot!!!!!What's the independent and dependent variable in this short study?
The independent variable is the one which represents the three conditions. The participants then use the choice of those three conditions to evaluate on a scale of 1 - 7. So the assignment on the scale of 1-7 is dependent upon the choice of the three conditions.

Although this was not necessary for my answer the fact that the computer *****randomly***** assigns one of the three conditions means that the variable cannot be dependent. Random does not allow for dependence.

Summarizing

The choice of three conditions is the independent variable.

The ratings on the scale of 1 to 7 is the dependent variable.
