What is a simple definition of a dependent and independent variable?

What is a definition of an independent and dependent variable???

Thanks for your help!!What is a simple definition of a dependent and independent variable?
An independent variable is an "input" variable. It's usually something you can control.

A dependent variable is an "output" variable. It's usually something that you measure.

For instance:

f(x) = y = x虏

You can think of x as the independent variable and y as the dependent variable, because the value of y depends on the value of x. That is, you can plug in a value for x, and you get a value back out for y.

Plug in x = 1:

f(1) = 1虏 = 1

And you get out y = 1.

Plug in x = -2:

f(-2) = (-2)虏 = 4

And you get out y = 4.What is a simple definition of a dependent and independent variable?
a dependent variable is something that depends on another thing

and an independent variable is something that doesn't depend on anything...

like.... y = 2x + 4

y is dependent on x...because as x changes y changes..... ( in general term of graphing )

therefore.....since y is dependent ... then x is independent :)What is a simple definition of a dependent and independent variable?
An independent variable is one that can take any value you choose, maybe within certain limits. A dependent variable is one that is worked out from some formula or process.
