In the context of graphing, describe the difference between a dependent and independent variable. In addition explain what a "best fit" graph is and why it is used. Use complete sentences and be sure to answer completely. In the context of graphing, describe the difference between a dependent and independent variable. In addition?
The dependent variable is the number that changes based on the independent variable. The independent variable does not change.

For example. x + 2 = y

If x is 2; y is four.

If x is 5; y is seven.

X is the independent, y is the dependent. Because [ y ] depends on what [ x ] is.

Or, another example, if you've been driving 2 minutes, you are five miles away from you're home.

How far away you are from home DEPENDS on how long you've been driving.

So when graphing, driving time is independent; and mileage is dependent on driving time.

Best fit is a straight line that best represents the data on a scatter plot.
