Describe how the dependent variable changes as the independent variable changes in a linear relationship. Give examples. ThanksDescribe how the dependent variable changes as the independent variable changes in a linear relationship. G?
A mathematical relationship can be written as :

y =f(x) i.e y is a function of x

for a linear relationship f(x) is a linear expression i.e of order 1

for e.g

y= 3x or y = 2x+4 or y=-4x+2 etc.

Now, coming to the eqn y=f(x) it means f(x) represents a function in x and since y=f(x) ,y takes values according to

f(x) ..it means y is a dependent variable i.e y is dependent on x.It means if x changes in value, y will accordingly change its value.

FOR E.G

consider the equation y=3x+4

here f(x) is represented by 3X+4

when x=0 ,y = 3x+4 i.e 3*0 +4=4

so, when x=0,y=4

When x=2

y=3x+4 i.e 3*2 +4=10

so, when x=2,y=10 and so on

Hence we can see as the dependent variable y changes its value according to the independent variable x.
