In this lab what is the control, independent variable and dependant variable?

Observing Osmosis.

Put 2 eggs in 2 cups of vinegar to remove hard shell.

Then blot and weigh it after 2 days.

Then put one in syrup and another in distilled water.

Mark the change of the mass.

So what is the control, independent variable, and dependent variable. In this lab what is the control, independent variable and dependant variable?
Not tricky.

The independent variables are the syrup and the water. They are what you varied in the experiment. They are different all by themselves - so they are independent. The dependent variable, the one that depends on the the other, independent, variable - is the mass of the egg after you subject it to your variables (independent ones). The control is the egg's mass without any solution, before you do anything to it. This control is what you used to show what would happen if you did nothing to the egg.

You might expect the water bath would cause water to move into the egg - water moves from higher concentration to lower - that egg would weigh MORE than the control egg.

The syrup would cause water to move out of the egg- water moves from higher concentration to lower - that egg would weigh LESS than the control egg.
