What is the dependent and independent variable?

I am trying to unconfuse myself with this. I am doing a compartative study and am looking for the dependent and independent variable of this question:

Do high school students do better grade-wise if they are on a sports team?

Any help would be great. What is the dependent and independent variable?
Dependent- grades

independent-sports team

Remember independent is the one that you can change

Dependent-is the result you get from the change
The dependent variable is the high school students doing better and the independent variable is the sports team deal...What is the dependent and independent variable?
the grades are the dependent variable (because you are trying to find out whether the grade DEPENDS on being on a sports team.

The spots team is thus the independent variable.

.What is the dependent and independent variable?
Well that graph would be "number of teams" and "% grade" is suppose. The number of teams is the one that decides the %, so its independent. The %grade is affected by the #of teams and is therefore dependent.
the variables you are measuring are 1)grades and 2) are they on a sports team?

The only thing you can really rely upon, independant of what their grades are, is are they on a sports team. Then their grades will vary DEPENDING UPON that.

1) is the dependent variable. 2)is independent.
