How do i figure out the difference between the dependent variable and the independent variable in an expiremen?

The purpose of the expiremnt was to see which surface a volleyball rolled faster on, wood, cememnt, or concrete. I recorded the time of the ball on each surface at 10 inches, 20 inches, and then 30 inches. Is the time the dependent variable? or is the time the independent variable? How do i figure out the difference between the dependent variable and the independent variable in an expiremen?
The independent variable is the one that you change, so the surface. The dependent variable is the one that's affected by the changing of the independent variable, so it's the time. How do i figure out the difference between the dependent variable and the independent variable in an expiremen?
The independent variable is what you change. The dependent variable is what changes as a result of the changed independent variable. Thus, the time is the dependent variable and the surface is the independent variable. How do i figure out the difference between the dependent variable and the independent variable in an expiremen?
The Surface is the dependent variable, the volleyball is the independent variabel, the time is what you are measuring.
