What is the independent and dependent variable for my science project ?

My science project is to find out whether artificial or sunlight is best for plants . I really dont get what's the independent or dependent variable after searching up definitions, and asking my classmates and teachers. I need to know what's the dependent %26amp; independent variable in my experiment .|||The independent variable is the one that causes something to happen.

The dependent variable is the one that it happens to, if it happens.

If you have algebra skills: if y is a function of x, then y is the dependent variable, x is the independent variable. What y is depends on what x is.

If not:

The plant is the dependent variable.

The light is the independent variable.

You carry out two procedures with independent variable (light) and dependent variable (plant).

You are going to compare the results after using the same kind of plant but different kinds of light.

The light causes something to happen to the plant: The independent variable is the one that causes something to happen.

The plant is affected by the light: The dependent variable is the one that it happens to.|||The dependent variable DEPENDS on the change you make. If you put some plants in artificial light and some in sunlight, then what happens to their growth depends on what condition you put them in. Their growth is the dependent variable.
