independent is ALWAYS what you manipulate i.e. light/dark

dependent is ALWAYS what you measure i.e. number or rate of insect responseI do not know what the independent or dependent variable is ?
the light or dark is independent and the insects are dependent. think about it this way, the light or dark is depented on (independent) the direction of the insects (Dependent).I do not know what the independent or dependent variable is ?
The dependent would be which direction the insect goes in (Light/Dark) and the independent would be the number of insects.
