What's the independent variable in this science experiment?

In science class, we had to measure the temperatures of a black container and white container after putting a heat lamp 15 cm away, for each minute up to 10 minutes. We have to draw a graph to show the data, and for that the independent variable has to be the minutes, and the dependent variable has to be the temperatures.

But we also have to list the controls and variables, and in that case, wouldn't the amount of minutes be a control since it's the same for both colors of cans? And wouldn't the color of the containers be the independent variable?|||The color of the container of the is the independent variable. The independent variable is always the input value. For example, in the equation 3x=y x is the independent variable, as it is the input, and y is the dependent variable, as it is the output.
